Approach for using SPOND to facilitate player loans

A GCL SPOND group https://spond.com/invite/KMMQW has been set up, within which are subgroups currently called "9A Player Loans", "9B Player Loans", etc.

Any player may register for one or more subgroups corresponding to the regions where they hope to play fixtures.

Details of this group have been shared to team captains, who can then share with their members - if any individual wants to participate then they'll simply need to register with the group; only basic details are required, but would request that the "Parent Club" custom field is filled in.

During the season, on the Wednesday before each Saturday fixture an availability request will be sent out, which members of the group then have the option to accept, decline or ignore.

The following is the suggested working pattern:

  • If a member knows they will be unavailable, actively decline the request (or simply ignore).
  • If a member knows they will be available (e.g. no fixture for their team that weekend), then they can accept immediately.
  • For any player who might be selected for a team that weekend, only accept the availability request once it is known that they won't be turning out for their parent club.
  • Cpatains of any team short of players can inspect the availability request (assuming they themselves are registered with the subgroup) and contact available respondents through SPOND messaging platform and invite them to the alternative fixture. If this is agreed, then the loanee should update their availablity to unavailable to avoid being contacted by any other team captains.
  • If, having accepted the offer to play for another team, a loanee is subsequently required by their parent club, then this should be honoured. As much notice as possible should be given to the receiving club to fill the shortfall.
  • This system should be used in good faith. If a player accepts an invitation from another club and subsequently drops out without good reason or with short notice, they are likely to be removed from the group and their team captain may have their permission to seek loan players removed / temporarily suspended.

Players will still need to be registered on Play-Cricket, following existing regulations.

Where necessary it could be helpful to include the SPOND administrator / area representative within any messages requesting loan players, which can then be used for regisration evidence.
